Whats is SEO and SEM?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the method of obtaining traffic for a website or a web page from “free,” “natural,” or unpaid (“organic”) search results in a search engine.
However, SEO is based on a 2step process,
1. Website Optimization
2. Authority
Website Optimization – It means Google must understand three things i.e.
- What keywords you are targeting
- What products and services you are presenting on your website
- And where you are going to sell them
Authority – It means giving authority to Google to check that your website has the best content for its users
SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. It is a form of internet marketing that helps to improve your website and content so that it is visible to search engines.
Two Types of Search
Organic Search – It focuses on unpaid rankings in search results. Organic results dynamically created by the search engine.
Paid Search – It focuses on paid rankings in search results. The paid result is shown at the top of the SERP with a small “Ad” note in the copy.
Difference between SEO and SEM?
Differences | SEM | SEO |
Search Result | Include “Ad” designation and have ad extensions | Appear as organic results and have featured snippets. |
Cost | Pay each time user clicks | Pay nothing |
Visibility | Shown to select a targeted audience | Shown to anyone |
Results | Are immediate since you are paying for the content to show up at the top | Typically take between 6 months and 2 Years |
Good for testing | Yes, it is good for testing | No, it’s not good for testing |
Click-through rate | Lower | Higher |
In conclusion, both SEO and SEM are important for running a website smoothly as it helps to make your website visible in both organic and advertised links.
